Module Design and Assembly
In initial designing stage, while considering the shape of
a battery module, please make sure the battery module inserted space
and method in the equipment. Also, please take it into consideration
the heat dissipation approaches during fast charging, Basic shapes
of battery modules are shown in Fig. 18.

Series A: cells are assembled into close vertical rows from
one to five, connected by spot welding nickel sheets and then packaged
with a shrinkage tube.
Series B: cells are assembled into close parallel rows form
one to five, connected by spot welding the nickel sheets and then
packaged with a shrinkage tube.
Protective Components and Devises
In designing of battery modules, please fully understand and consider
possible abnormality of the charger and possible external short circuit
of the battery module, before selecting the protective components.
Protective components recommended by YUASA Company are shown
in Fig.19. It is also necessary to consider the discharge condition
and ambient temperature when selecting the protective components.
1. Temperature switch
2. PTC (Positive temperature coefficient heat-sensitive resistance)
3. NTC (Negative temperature coefficient heat-sensitive resistance)

Select protective components and devices, according
to the charge and discharge conditions. You may increase and
reduce protective devices at different conditions. |

¡ù Temperature protector and PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient)
have recovering function and fuse is non-recovered.
Additional Description on Module Assembly
(1)Each cell within a battery module is connected with another by
spot welding. The reason of selecting nickel sheet is the low resistance
of nickel, without increasing much total resistance. In spot welding
process, be care not to break the nickel sheet with over-current,
or unstable welding site caused by too low current. If the thickness
is more than 2mm, the nickel sheet should be processed into special
shape, insuring the quality of spot welding.
(2) In designing outside containers of battery modules, heat and gas
releasing holes should be arranged, because heat and gas may be generated
during batteries operation. If the temperature is too high, the cycle
life and other performances of batteries shall be affected greatly.
